A graduate of Louisiana State University, Lana is a strategic thinker, skilled communicator, decisive leader and diplomatic problem-solver with 25 years’ experience in public affairs. She has a proven track record of cultivating effective relationships with elected officials, community leaders, policy makers and other key influencers to achieve advocacy goals. Her expertise in leveraging media contacts at all levels has generated positive media coverage across multiple platforms.
Lana spent more than a decade as public and government affairs advisor for ExxonMobil Baton Rouge. In addition to serving as a company spokesperson, she developed and executed strategic communications and advocacy campaigns and led crisis communications planning, training and response. During her tenure, she worked with employee and community advocates to address activism and prepare for public and legislative hearings. She also worked extensively with industry representation on the Capital Area Groundwater Commission, North Baton Rouge Industrial Training Initiative and North Baton Rouge Chemical Industry Task Force on strategic planning and to further public awareness. Lana also managed the site’s public affairs emergency response planning and training activities for all Baton Rouge area sites. She also worked with numerous organizations to enhance and promote ExxonMobil’s numerous community outreach and philanthropic programs and events.
Lana’s prior experience includes serving as press secretary for Louisiana Economic Development following Hurricane Katrina, acting as primary department spokesperson and coordinating trade missions, press events and working across state agencies on a variety of response and recovery programs. She has also held government relations director positions for both the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association in Louisiana. Upon graduation from LSU, she held volunteer management, fundraising and event planning positions with other non-profit organizations in Washington, D.C. and Atlanta.
A member of the Public Relations Society of America, the Public Relations Association of Louisiana and the Baton Rouge Press Club, Ms. Venable also serves as a volunteer instructor in media relations/crisis communications for the Baton Rouge Area Mutual Aid System (BRAMAS). She was nominated by Representative Ted James and appointed to Mayor Sharon Weston Broome’s North Baton Rouge revitalization transition subcommittee in 2017. She is a graduate of the 2010 Council for A Better Louisiana (CABL) Leadership Louisiana program and is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Baton Rouge.
Ms. Venable enjoys being active in the community and is currently a member of the American Cancer Society leadership council and the Bayou Kitchen Youth Development Program board of directors. She previously served on the board of the Louisiana State Museum at the appointment of the Lieutenant Governor and is a past president of the Friends of the Capitol Park Museum. Additionally, she has served on the boards of the Friends of Louisiana Public Broadcasting and the Big Buddy Program, where she received an award for outstanding service in 2017.
